About

Hi there, my name is Robert Smith. My chief passion in life short of my family is DRAWING, so I'm incredibly lucky to work as a freelance illustrator. From home! In a studio I built (mostly) with my own two hands! I've enjoyed drawing since I can remember and think I'm finally getting the hang of it. I can work in a variety of different styles and mediums so am able to adapt quickly to suit any given project, but I'm at my happiest sat in front of my Cintiq, working digitally in programs like Photoshop, Clip Studio or Storyboard Pro.

Once upon a time I was a Senior Designer and Production Manager at a publishing house, so did a looot of book cover designs and internal layouts. Hundreds probably. I taught others how to as well. I did this for 10 years when I realised that I also love computer games and animated films. I wanted to know how that all worked so in 2012 I went to uni and got a degree in 3D animation. My favourite thing I took from this was the ability to design and make characters and environments in Maya and ZBrush. I'm not adverse to throwing shapes round in AfterEffects either.

Over the years I've been fortunate to work on projects ranging from storyboards, book jackets and illustration, to graphic novels, animated shorts and computer games. I really love what I do, and hope it comes across in the work I produce.

I'm based in Horsham, South UK where I usually work remotely but I'm able to come in-house if required. Please feel free to get in touch if you're interested in working with me.
